DAY 01 : ARRIVAL - VIENTIANE - LUANGPRABANG
Upon arrival, meet your guide and go
on an orientation tour of the capital (if time permits). Then transfer
to the airport for the short flight to Luang Prabang, which is perhaps
the best-preserved traditional city in Southeast Asia. The tranquility
and charm of this town combined with its splendid natural scenery and
cultural sights make it one of the most delightful places to visit in
Laos. After checking into your hotel, visit the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrines of Wat Aham and Wat Mai
. Then climb up to the top of Phousi Mount to admire the sacred, gilded
stupa and the glorious sunset over the city and the Mekong River. In
the evening, visit the Night Bazaar, where you can buy lovely handmade textiles produced by the local hill tribe people.
DAY 02 : LUANGPRABANG - PAK OU
Get
up early to participate in the daily early morning ritual of the
saffron-robed Buddhist monks as they extend their black Alms-giving
bowls and receive offerings from the local people, including the
ubiquitous sticky rice. Take a short guided tour to see the citys
oldest temple of Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its
roof sweeping down toward the ground in the classical architectural
style of Luang Prabang temples. Then embark on a cruise up the Mekong
River to see the beautiful, tranquil countryside and the mysterious Pak
Ou Caves, crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of
various shapes and sizes. Stop at the village of Ban Xanghai where the
local rice wine is distilled. On your return, take a short drive to Ban
Phanom, well known for its hand weaving. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
DAY 03 : LUANGPRABANG - VIENTIANE
In
the morning, visit the National Museum, located in the grounds of the
former Royal Palace, and examine its impressive collection of artifacts
reflecting the richness of Lao culture dating from the days of the
early kings right through to the last sovereign. Then visit the Central
Market before catching a flight back to Vientiane. Upon arrival, go on
a sightseeing tour of the major temples including Wat Sisaket, which
contains thousands of miniature Buddha statues, and the former royal
temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald
Buddha. On the way to the sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, stop to
take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, Vientianes own Arc
de Triumph. Watch the sunset and spend the evening by the Mekong
Riverside. Overnight in Vientiane.
DAY 04 : VIENTIANE - DEPARTURE
After
breakfast, visit the Morning Market and the weaving village of Ban Nong
Bouathong (if time permits). The tour ends after your transfer to
Wattay Airport or the Friendship Bridge for departure.
