Ever since the tourism ban was lifted, more and more beach lovers are discovering the wonders of Myanmar. The country has thousands of kilometres of pristine coastline, with a huge part of it covered in powdery white sand, which ensures that Myanmar is going to be one of the most famous beach destinations in Southeast Asia.
Much of the beaches in Myanmar are undeveloped, undiscovered, and unspoiled, which was the unexpected side effect of the travel ban and the slow economic growth of the country. Locals say that the best beaches are located at the shores of the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, mostly for the view. These beaches are facing the west, which assures visitors that romantic sunsets will be had everyday.

Ngapali Beach, Thandwe
Located near the seaside town of Thandwe, Ngapali Beach is around four miles away from the town proper. Ngapali Beach is, in fact, the most popular beach destination in the country, but the name is relatively kept quiet because of Myanmar’s (extremely) secretive former government.
At present, there are a couple of hotels and resorts operating in the area, with the majority of them being of the luxury kind. These luxury establishments boast not only of great service (and high prices!), but also of stunning views of white sand, turquoise waters, and palm trees.

Ngwe Saung Beach , Ayeryarwady
Situated nearly 50 kilometers from the Ayerarwady region, the Ngwe Saung Beach is one of the more popular beach destinations in Myanmar. Although relatively new, more and more people (especially those who could afford the slightly high-end prices) are flocking to this silver sand-carpeted beach. Ngwe Saung is still not as developed as Ngapali or Chaung Tha Beaches, but the area will progress soon.
Chaung Tha Beach, Ayeryarwady
You can drive from Yangon to Chaung Tha Beach, a destination very popular with middle-class locals and budget tourists. Of course, the affordable Chaung Tha does not give you the million-dollar views of Ngapali an Ngwe Saung offer their visitors. There are a couple of affordable hotels in the beach, which can full with the middle-class holiday-makers resting for the weekend.
Myanmar Thandwe
Maungmagan Beach, Dawei
One of the oldest beach destinations in Myanmar, the Maungmagan beach is around 75 minutes by air from Yangon. This beach used to be saturated with holiday-makers, until Chanung Tha beach opened. At present, Maungmagan is slated to become an ecotourism destination.
Kanthaya Beach
If you want something pure and unspoiled (especially with your travel destinations), then Kanthaya Beach is just for you. This beach is relatively quiet, with the sand being darker in color and now powder-fine.
