Myanmar was a major contributor to the establishment of the SEA Games after hosting in 1962 and 1969 which was held in Yangon – also known as Rangoon. This incredible year 2013 will be the third time to host SEA Game for The Golden Land – Myanmar, most of the major events including opening & closing ceremonies will take place in New Capital Nay Pyi Daw. In the meantime Yangon, Mandalay & Ngwe Saung Beach will be also co-hosted as the venue for some game competition.

The official mascot of the 2013 SEA Games is a couple of golden owls, Mr. Shwe Yoe & Ms. Moe. This mascot is considerable lucky charms in the traditional way of Myanmar. The Theme for this year SEA Games is Green, Clean and Friendship.

The participating countries are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. The total numbers of the events are 460 games in 34 sports.

As the numbers of hotel rooms are not balance with the visitor demanding in Nay Pyi Daw, most tour companies and travel agents are offering the day return package from Taungoo to witness the SEA Games in Nay Pyi Daw.
The visitor might be up & down for this sixty nine kilometers distance, but the serenity on the way and the feature of Taungoo are worth to do that. There will be some flight promotions between Yangon and Nay Pyi Daw during the SEA Games days.
