Itinerary
ARRIVE YANGON
Arrive at Yangon International Airport. Welcome by our tour guide. Transfer to hotel. Yangon sightseeing tour includes the old colonial style city center with the gilded Sule Pagoda, dating back over 2,000 years. Bogyoke (Scotts) Market with hundreds of stores and gems shops. The tour continue to Chaukhtatgyi, a huge reclining Buddha image, extended visit to Shwedagon Pagoda, one of the world’s most spectacular religious monuments. The golden dome of Shwedagon Pagoda rises 98meters above its base and is covered with 60 tons of pure gold. Overnight at your hotel in Yangon
YANGON – MANDALAY
After breakfast, transfer to the airport to take a flight to Mandalay. Upon arrival, drive to Amarapura. Visit 200 year old U Bein’s Teak Wood Bridge. Then proceed to Mahagan daryon Monastery where there are more than 1500 Buddhist monks. Then proceed to Mahamuni Pagoda with its spectacular Buddha image covered with thick layers of gold leaf, Gold-leaf beating, Shwe Nan Daw Kyaung or Golden Palace Monastery, a superb example of a traditional wooden building and Kuthodaw Pagoda, known as the world’s biggest book, consisting of 729 marble slabs engraved with Buddhist scriptures. Among the historical buildings are crafts men’s workshops such as Bronze casting, Marble carving, Kalaga tapestries, etc. should be seen. Sunset from Mandalay Hill. Overnight at a hotel in Mandalay.
MANDALAY – PYIN OO LWIN
After breakfast, drive on a scenic route to the cool hill station of Pyin Oo Lwin [May Myo], with its lovely lake and waterfalls, botanical gardens and colonial buildings. Visit Peik Chin Myaung Caves, since ancient times a Buddhist shrine, and then proceed to Pwe Kauk Waterfalls, a favorite picnic spot for local people. Return to Mandalay. Stay overnight in Mandalay
MANDALAY – BAGAN
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for a domestic flight to Bagan. On arrival, transfer to your hotel. Sightseeing tour starting with the busy local market and continuing with visits to a diverse selection of the most important Pagodas and temples, such as Shwezigon Pagoda, built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century, Kubyanuk Gyi, a temple with exquisite murals of Jataka and Ananda Temple with four huge standing Buddha images and numerous seated figures in niches around the galleried interior. Continue sightseeing to Manuha Temple, built in Mon Style in 1095, Nanbaya Temple, a unique sandstone monument, said to have been the palace of King Manuha. Move on to Myingaba Gu Byaukgyi Temple, noted for its ancient mural paintings under the protection of UNESCO. Proceed to Shwesandaw Stupa to watch sunset over the Ayeyarwaddy River. BAGAN
After breakfast, go sightseeing to Manuha Temple, built in Mon Style in 1095, Nanbaya Temple, a unique sandstone monument, said to have been the palace of King Manuha and Myingaba Gu Byaukgyi Temple, noted for its ancient mural paintings under the protection of UNESCO. Visit Lawka Nandar Stupa and Sulamani Pagoda meaning “Crowning Jewel” built in 1181 by King NarMt.Popaapati Sithu. Proceed to the finest Damayangyi Temple. Watch the sunset on Shwesandaw Pagoda. Stay overnight in Bagan.
BAGAN – SALE – MT.POPA
Enjoy your breakfast in your hotel. Take an excursion to Sale, which is famous for its “Yokesone Monastery”. The monastery is unique for its wood curving and then visit the Buddha Images made from lacquer ware. Drive to Mt. Popa and enjoying the beautiful scenery. Popa Hill Lock or crag believed to be the abode of 37 Nats (spiritual beings) regarded as the gods for animism before the Bagan dynasty (11th to 13th cent). After climbing 777 steps to the top you can enjoy the scenic beauty around including the extinct volcano Mt. Popa which is about 1500 meters high. On the way to Mt. Popa, study the daily life of the people among the palm trees. Stay overnight in Popa.
MT.POPA – KALAW
Morning drive to Kalaw, the journey continues on a narrow, winding and bumpy road through the Shan Hills. In the late afternoon you will reach Kalaw, a fresh and delightful hill station, on the rim of the Shan Plateau, which is the market center for ethnic minorities from surrounding regions. Overnight at hotel in Kalaw
KALAW
After breakfast, trek to Palaung Hills in the area surrounding Kalaw and visit the hill tribes’ villages in their colorful costumes. Then, drive to the small quiet town of Pindaya enjoying the great scenic beauty of the countryside along the way. Overnight in Kalaw. [Trekking normally starts early in the morning so it is necessary for an overnight stay in Kalaw before trekking. The closet tribal village would take at least 2 hours to and from and there are visiting hours in the village.
KALAW – PINDAYA – INLAY LAKE
After breakfast, drive to the small quiet town of Pindaya, where sightseeing highlights include Pindaya Caves, these caves are set in a limestone ridge overlooking the lake. Inside the cavern there are more than 8000 Buddha images – made from alabaster, teak, marble, brick, lacquer and cement – and are arranged in such a way as to form a labyrinth throughout the various cave chambers. Shwe U Min Paya is a cluster of low stupas just below the ridge near the Pindaya Caves. Proceed by road to Nyaung Shwe. Arrive and transfer to hotel for check- in. Stay overnight in Nyaung Shwe.
INLAY LAKE
After breakfast, take an excursion by boat on Inlay Lake to see the Intha-fishermen rowing with their legs, pagodas on artificial islands in the lake, floating gardens and floating market (on market day only). Continue to Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, one of the principle shrines in Myanmar and dating back to the 18th century; the Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery, famous for its jumping cats trained by monks and the weaving village of Inpawkhon. Stay overnight on Inlay Lake.
INLAY-HEHO-KYAING THONG
After breakfast, transfer to Heho Airport for the flight to Kyaing Tong. Upon arrival in Kyain Phaung Daw Oo Pagodag Tong, transfer and check in to the hotel. Take the coach for about 45 minutes, then trek about 20 minutes to “Akha village” and then proceed to a waterfall and come back to Kyaing Tong. Overnight at your hotel in Kyaing Tong
KYAING TONG (TREKKING)
Take a morning visit to Buffalo market [if it’s on!]. Then take the coach about 45 minutes and trek about 1:30 hours until you arrive at Akha village. Here, you can visit their houses, chat with them and enjoy the village. In the afternoon, come back to the vehicle to go to Palaung village, Lahu village, Wa village and finally to the hot spring. KYAING TONG (MOTORBIKES)
Morning visit to Akha village, visit the Shan tribes totaling about 40 houses. Then, walk through the forest passing streams, small water falls and crossing over a suspension bridge. Arrive at the village of Lishaw with about 20 houses. Now, we take motorbikes for about 1:30 hours to arrive at the villages where the Kachin, Lahu and Akha people are living. After that, proceed to Lahu village where the people wear long white blouses and just about 6 houses. Come back and overnight at the Hotel in Kyaing Tong.
KYAING TONG – TACHILEIK
In the morning, visit the Central market and then transfer to the airport for your flight to Tachileik. Upon arrival in Tachileik, transfer to Tachileik border for your departure. End of Myanmar discovery.
