Song Xanh Sampan Mekong Delta Cruise 3 Days 2 Nights is a great choice for tourists who want to discover the beauty of the Upper Mekong Delta river with the incredible system of canals. Immerse into the scenes and get an authentic sense of the bustle and hustle in Cai Rang and Cai Be floating markets. This tour also offers a wonderful experience about the rich culture of Southwestern Vietnam and delicious local dishes as well as various tropical fruits.
Overview
We have launched on last Oct 07 the first of a flotilla of 4 very unique, authentic and charming Sampans named “Song Xanh Sampan Mekong Delta Cruise“, designed for traveller looking for “private” cruise experiences in the Mekong Delta. On board, two spacious spaces of 15sqm each are equipped with beautiful bamboo and rattan furniture, creating a very charming atmosphere. A very attentive service is provided by a team of 4 crew members”
Having our head quarters based in Phu An/Cai Lay (next to Cai Be, Tien Giang Province), we operate cruises and related tours services in the Mekong Delta Cruises using our own built sampans, all stylishly designed and inspired by ancient authentic traditional Indochinese river boats.
Since June 2006, we also operate our own-built restaurant named “Le Longanier”, a beautiful Indochinese two storeys villa with authentic architecture and style.
Today, with a flottilla of 10 boats and employing more than 50 staffs (boats + restaurant), Mekong Horizon Co., Ltd. is recognised among the Vietnam based Travel Agents community as one of the leading private Cruise-Operator in the delta.
Each sampan will carry a charming rowing boat (“Xuong”), nicely designed for deeper cruises along small canals and arroyos during the itinerary.
Bicycles can also be taken on board (fixed on a rack a the back) for exciting “out of the track” countryside rides. Designed for individuals looking for authentic “Private Cruise” experience, with overnight on board.
– Equipped with a bathroom with lavabo and shower, the sampans can also be used for daily private cruise programs for FIT’s or Groups.
Cabin
– Salon amenities: 1 rattan sofa and 2 rattan armchairs with cotton pillows, 1 rattan low table, books, 1 rattan standing lamp, water jacynth floor carpet.
– Bathroom amenities: tooth brushes and tooth paste, cotton buds, shower cap, shampoo, soap, bath and hands cotton towels.
– Bed room amenities: cotton kimonos, rattan slippers, fans, double bed with silk bed covers and pillows , 2 rattan bed drawers/bedroom with 2 silk bed lamps lotus style, 1 ratan chest drawer/bedroom, 1 rattan sofa with cotton pillows, water jacynth floor carpets (bed sides and front).
– Sun deck amenities: teak wood square table with 4 or 6 bamboo/hard cotton chairs. 1 small rowing boat attached at the back (“Xuong”) with bicycles for deeper canals discovery.
Option 1
Cai Be - Sa Dec
Depart from Phu An Jetty at 10:00AM. Ride around the remote countryside area by bicycle, and end up at Le Longanier Restaurant.
Have lunch at the exquisite colonial-style villa positioned in a lush tropical garden by the river. After lunch, begin your leisurely cruise on the Delta’s beautiful waterways. Along the way, make stops to discover local cottage industries for which the river local people have done to earn their living. Before arriving at Sa Dec, pay a visit to a traditional brick mill where everything is made by hand. When getting in Sa Dec, step ashore and go for a stroll towards the outdoor market. Enter the historic house of the real-life character appearing in the reputable novel and film “The Lover” by Marguerite Duras.
A candlelit dinner has been prepared at this dramatic house. Enjoy your first night on the Mekong River.
Sa Dec - Long Xuyen - Phu Tan
Have a nice leisurely breakfast on board while you are taken towards Long Xuyen along a narrow canal, and interestingly pass several scenic monkey bridges. After lunch on board, get in Long Xuyen to visit Tiger Island, known as the birthplace of Vietnam’s second president.
Continue boarding the sampan for dinner and resume your cruise towards Chau Doc. The sampan will sail until approximately 10:00PM, and then the pilot anchors for the night. Stay overnight on board.
Phu Tan - Chau Doc
Enjoy breakfast on board while you cruise towards Chau Doc. Located close to the border with Cambodia, Chau Doc is the ideal gateway to Phnom Penh. Not only renowned for its pagodas and temples, but Chau Doc is also where you can find the Tra Su Bird Sanctuary, a superb eucalyptus mangrove. Disembark at Victoria Chau Doc private pier at approximately 10:00AM.

Option 2
CAI BE - SA DEC
Begin from Phu An Jetty at 10:00AM. Go for a bicycle ride to gain interesting experiences of this tranquilly rural area, and end up at Le Longanier Restaurant.
Enjoy your lunch in the exquisite colonial-style villa located in a lush tropical garden by the river. Afterwards, get on the Song Xanh Sampan for a nice leisurely cruise along the bustling waterways of the Mekong Delta. En route, make stops to know more about local cottage industries in which products are made from rice and coconuts – familiar items of the Mekong Delta.
Before arrival in Sa Dec, enter a traditional brick mill where you will see everything be made by hand. Right after getting in Sa Dec, take a leisurely walk towards a busy outdoor market. Visit the historic house of the real-life character in the acclaimed novel and film “The Lover” by Marguerite Duras. Then, savor a candlelit dinner at this dramatic house. Relish your first night on your sampan as it is moored.
SA DEC - LONG XUYEN - RACH GIA
You enjoy breakfast on board while the sampan is directed towards Long Xuyen throughout narrow canals and moves past several rustic monkey bridges and charming rural scenes. After lunch on board, get in Long Xuyen and visit Tiger Island, where the Vietnam’s second president was born. Keep embarking for dinner and resume your cruise towards Rach Gia. Stay overnight on board.
RACH GIA
At around 7:00 AM, get in Rach Gia, the capital of Kien Giang Province, positioned on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand. Have breakfast on board before disembarkation. For those who early travel to Phu Quoc, the breakfast can be served at around 6:00 am.
Option 3
CHAU DOC – LONG XUYEN
Be welcomed at the Victoria Chau Doc Hotel jetty at 10:00AM, you will be provided with cold towels and a refreshing drink right after the Song Xanh sampan is set in motion for a nice leisurely cruise on the river from Chau Doc towards Long Xuyen. Along the way to travel through a narrow canal, the sampan will pass by monkey bridges and tranquil villages.
Before arrival in Long Xuyen, have lunch on board. Afterwards, pay a visit to Tiger Island (Cu Lao Ong Ho), a small island that is the hometown of the Vietnam’s second president - Ton Duc Thang.
Go for a stroll around the park surrounding a museum, and then experience a cycle ride around the island for the better view. Your last stopover before sunset is at a Vietnamese home to grab the more understanding of how the locals live. Enjoy a candlelit dinner here. Overnight on board.
LONG XUYEN – SA DEC
You are served with breakfast on board at 7:00 am while the sampan cruises downstream. When getting in Sa De, stroll around this charming town for sightseeing. One of the town’s highlights is the ancient house of Huynh Thuy Le, a real-life character in the celebrated novel and film “The Lover” by Marguerite Duras.
Sa Dec is well worth discovering as it plays a significant role in the development of the Delta region. In the town, there are large Chinese and Khmer communities founded for a long time, while the French have also left their mark on the local architecture. As a result, many religions are found side by side, such as a Catholic church, a Chinese temple, a Cao Dai temple, and Vietnamese pagodas.
Savor lunch and dinner on board. Stay overnight on the Song Xanh sampan.
SA DEC – CAI BE
Begin cruising towards Cai Be at 6:00 am. Observe the locals’ life as it plays out on shore – the people starting their daily activities contribute to picturesque landscapes - while leisurely enjoying breakfast onboard. Along the way, stop at some spots to learn about cottage industries of the local region; some of the stops are at a brick factory, coconut candy, puffed rice workshops (the local equivalent of popcorn), and small home-based businesses which the locals do for their living. End the cruise at Le Longanier Restaurant, and have lunch in the exquisite colonial-style villa located in a lush tropical garden by the river as well as surrounded by fruit plantations, where you have a glimpse into the Indochina of yesteryear.
